Already a lot of different ways have been invented to accelerate the germination of seeds for seedlings. One of these methods is the use of peat tablets. They are a completely environmental invention, bringing huge benefits from the application. And even the grid in which the contents of the tablet are located is a degradable material, it does not need to be disposed of at the time of plant transplantation into the open ground.
Structure
In addition to peat, in the composition of such tablets is:
- humus;
- minerals;
- antibacterial additives.
Tablets have a different level of acidity, so each type of plant can choose the ideal growing environment.
The largest deposits of peat in Canada and Russia. In Canada, about 170 billion tons, in Russia - 150 billion tons.
Peat washers were invented specifically for germinating seeds and seedlings, rooting leaves and cuttings of domestic plants.
Advantages and disadvantages of using
Peat tablets have many advantages, for example:
- Seeds planted in this way have much higher germination.
- Optimal for seedlings that cannot tolerate picking.
- Save space due to the fact that the tablets are compact, take up little space in the box, while the shoots do not interfere with each other.
- Continuous use for seedlings, since the peat washer provides it with full nutrition, which means that seedlings are not required to be fertilized.
- Unlimited storage provided that they are dry.
- It is easy to maintain the optimum level of humidity, just pour a little water into the pan.
- Due to the porous structure, the rhizome is well ventilated.
- The minimum likelihood of black seedling disease.
Among the shortcomings can be called a considerable price, which is felt when growing large volumes of seedlings.
Instructions for using peat washers
Planting seeds in this way is very easy, just follow the instructions exactly:
- First you need to determine the size: for small shoots, a diameter of up to 3.5 cm will be enough, for vegetables - up to 5 cm, and for large specimens - from 6 cm.
- Immediately before planting the landing material, pour the washers with warm water, and they will increase in size by 5 times. Leave in this form for half an hour.
- Drain the liquid, place the swollen tablets in a dry tray at a minimum distance from each other.
- Seal several seeds in the recesses, and then cover the tray or container with a film to create a greenhouse.
- It is necessary to monitor the level of humidity, with a lack of moisture, the tablets will begin to decrease in size, which can lead to the death of seedlings. Watering should be done in a pan, but stagnation of water should be avoided.
- If sprouted roots are found, the plant should be transplanted into the open ground. This is done very simply, you need to bury the seedling with the tablet on the bed, while the edge should be at the same level as the soil.
Peat has the ability to recover very quickly, so its reserves on Earth, even despite active production, are practically not reduced.
In general, growing seedlings in peat tablets is no different from the traditional method using boxes and pots.
Peat pills are an excellent material that allows you to grow seedlings without loss, while it will form strong roots due to the low invasiveness of this method, and the gardener spends minimal effort, saves space and gets healthy seedlings.
