Honey lovers know how difficult it is to fill it with liquid from a jar and not leave any streaks on the outside and stains on the tablecloth. However, not everyone knows that there is an invention that solves these problems. As it is called and applied - read on in our material further.
What is a honey spoon?
The honey spoon is a stick with an ovoid thickening on one side, which is cut several times across in the form of sinuses in a circle. It is also called a spindle or mace for honey (thanks to its shape), twist, honey dipper, in English Honey Dipper or Honey Stick.
History of honey spoons
Nothing is known about who invented this unusual spoon, but it has been successfully used by beekeepers for a long time. Previously, it was only wooden, now you can also buy plastic or silicone. The tree for the device is impregnated with special oil.
Important! It is better to refuse metal spoons of this form, since metal can spoil the taste of the product.
Why is it ribbed?
Circular holes on the thickening give this spindle a ribbed appearance. The slots are filled with a bee product, which does not leak when it is transferred to the outlet, which makes it easy to enjoy dessert without staining the table and the jar. The standard length of the device is 15–18 cm with a mass of 10–20 g, the size of the thickening is 3.5 × 3.5 or 2.5 × 2.5 cm. For decorative purposes, it can be sold complete with a special can that holds the spindle upright, or saucer.
Why do you need a spoon for honey?
Such a mace has been used successfully for many years, since:
- It looks unusual, attracts the attention of guests and decorates the interior.
- Allows you to keep the jar clean - you can avoid drips, because the spindle does not need to be wiped on the edge of the can to stop the flow.
- You can avoid stains on the tablecloth - a special shape allows you to transfer the treat from the can to the container for serving without dripping.
- It saves the product - you don’t have to wipe away the leftover sweets and throw them away.
- It solves the problem of souring due to bread crumbs - such a device does not need to be wiped on bread to stop the flow of dessert from a spoon.
- It helps to evaluate the quality of the product based on its viscosity - if it slowly flows out of the slots, the stream leaves a visible wavy trace on the honey surface, then the product has a natural origin and is produced by bees. Rapid creep, the absence of traces of the jet, spray indicates a fake.
- This is a great gift idea, especially since it is often sold as a gift, complete with a patterned glass or painted ceramic jar.
- Its purpose is specifically for honey, it is traditional, so aesthetes who prefer special knives for fruits, fish forks or tongs for Yorkshire buns will appreciate it.
Did you know? Elvish honey from the Turkish Sarikair Valley is produced at a depth of 1800 m and is sold at a price of 5 thousand euros per 1 kg.
How to use such a spoon?
The wand is extremely easy to use and does not require special skills:
- Holding the device perpendicular to the surface, lower it into the container with the product. The depth depends on how much dessert you need, but you should not submerge deeper than the top slot.
- Rotate it around its own axis so that the delicacy fills the slots.
- Without stopping, remove the spindle from the honey. Thanks to centrifugal force, rotational movements will not allow sweets to drain.
- Lower the wand into the container you need and stop the rotation. A thick stream will begin to flow into the vessel.
- To speed up the drain, lower the spoon horizontally.
- In the same way, the device is used if it is necessary to pour bread, pie, cake, etc. When they have the right amount of liquid nectar on them, start twisting the spoon to stop the flow, then transfer it to the jar.
Thus, despite the strange shape, the use of a special spoon for honey gives many advantages, first of all, the accurate movement of the dessert. It is very easy to use, and the appearance allows you to complement any interior.
