Fruit trees in the West and North of Ukraine were affected by a disease that could negate stone fruit yields this year, said the head of the agrometeorology of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Tatyana Adamenko.
Frosts observed in late April and early May slightly damaged fruit trees. But in the western and northern regions, including the Kiev region, large-scale lesions of pear, cherry and apricot moniliosis were noticed, a meteorologist shared the information.
According to Tatyana Adamenko, the disease in the initial stage damages the flower, then spreads to the leaves and shoots of the fruit tree. In such a situation, we can say that this year's harvest is not necessary.Favorable factors for the development of the disease are a decrease in air temperature during the flowering period and prolonged rains in early April.
As experts predict, this year the harvest of fruits, including pears and apples, will be less than in the previous year, not only due to record production volumes in 2018, but also due to the negative impact of weather conditions on fruit development.Earlier it was reported that this year there is a real threat of damage to the flowers and shoots of the apple tree by monilial burns, as the experts of the NAAS Gardening Institute warned.
