Prices for blueberries in Ukraine for the current working week increased by almost 20%. The rise in price of berries was a complete surprise for consumers, because the season has just begun to gain momentum.
Throughout the past week, the number of offers of berries on the domestic markets grew, and prices, respectively, decreased. But this week, the weather has made adjustments to the usual scenario of market events.
In the farms of Western Ukraine, which is the main production region of blueberries, berry ripening has slowed due to cold weather, and rains interfere with harvesting. Sellers in the wholesale markets since the beginning of the week have noticed that the demand for blueberries has become higher than its offer and began to raise prices.
According to Info-Shuvar, today in the largest wholesale market in Western Ukraine ORSP “Shuvar”, the berry is offered at 140-160 UAH / kg, which is equivalent to 4.6-5.3 Euro / kg and this is almost the same as last year's price level . For comparison, at the end of last week, prices for blueberries in the wholesale markets fell to 110-130 UAH / kg, which is 3.6-4.3 euro / kg.
According to Info-Shuvar experts, in the previous three seasons the lowest price for blueberries in Ukraine was fixed at the end of July.
