The Main Directorate of State Food and Beverage Service in the Poltava Region reports that in accordance with the Order of the Poltava Regional State Administration dated July 15, 2019 No. 488, on the proposal of the Chief State Phytosanitary Inspector of the Phytosanitary Safety Directorate of the Main Directorate of the State Food and Beverage Service in the Poltava Region, a quarantine regime was introduced on a total area of 1.6 hectares in connection with the discovery of a new focus of the quarantine pest - Western flower thrips.
Thrips was detected on plants grown in the greenhouses of Dutch Roses LLC at the following address: Poltava region, Horishni Plavni, ul. Port, 4.
Western flower thrips are a polyphagous pest that harms more than 250 species of plants. Its larvae and adults feed on fruit, vegetable, and flower crops, sucking out the plant cell sap. In addition, thrips is a carrier of viral diseases.

The biological method of controlling thrips now has the greatest effect and is widespread in the world. Among the drugs allowed in Ukraine to combat this quarantine pest, organophosphorus insecticides, peritroids and neonicotinoids based on such active substances: pyrimifos-methyl, alpha-cypermethrin, imidacloprid, acetamiprine.
Under current law, imported plants, vegetables and fruits must be free from quarantine organisms, accompanied by phytosanitary certificates, and also come from a territory free from any quarantines.
In cases where phytosanitary examination confirms the detection of Western flower thrips in imported goods, all cargo must be decontaminated, destroyed or returned to its country of origin.
