The farm "Zahidny Ravlik" in the village of Solonka in the Pustomitovsky district of the Lviv region is engaged in the cultivation of edible snakes. This is the first snake farm in Ukraine.
According to the co-owner of the farm Irina Yuskevich, snakes are grown on the farm for two months. Farmers grow reptiles for sale in restaurants.
The owners of the farm said that only recently they managed to get all the necessary permits, because for the specialists of the State Food and Beverage Service of the Pustomitovsky District it was an unexpected type of business. The farm is located on a standard plot between private houses in the salt cellar.
Spouse-farmers said they did not want to stop on breeding snails and snakes. They also plan to grow frogs. Entrepreneurs are also considering launching a locust farm.
According to Irina Yuskevich, a dish prepared from a snake will cost in the range of 3-4 thousand UAH per serving. At the same time, one snake can cook for three people.
In order for snakes to achieve commercial standards, they are reared for three years. They are fed quail eggs, milk and fresh fry from fisheries.
According to Irina Yuskevich, snake meat will not gain much popularity, but there will always be people who want to try something unusual. Farmers plan to launch the cultivation of poisonous snakes to obtain poisons used in pharmaceuticals.
