Winter sowing 2018 in Russia breaks all records of past years. Farmers are chasing high yields in order to hit a truly big jackpot.
In mid-November, experts say, more than 17.5 million hectares of land were planted with winter crops on Russian fields. Last year, the sowing rate was 0.6 million hectares lower.
“At the end of 2018, more than 18.4 million hectares of land will be sown,” experts at the SovEcon analytical company predict. “Last year, an area of 17.8 million hectares was the result of sowing winter crops.”

“It is possible that in 2019 the production of grain (in particular, wheat) will increase significantly,” experts predict. - Surely next year, the sowing area of winter crops will increase (at least 0.5 hectares), which will entail a yield increase of one and a half to two million tons.
