The land bank of Agrofirm Olbia in Zaporozhye is about 3 thousand. Almost 500 hectares of farm land are occupied by the best varieties of winter wheat and barley, which are adapted specifically to the harsh agro-climatic conditions of the Ukrainian steppe.
Every year, 10-12 crops are grown on the farm: both classic and niche. Therefore, in the fields you can find both winter wheat, winter and spring barley, oats, sunflower, canola and peas, and chickpeas, coriander, mustard or various types of flax.
An important area that Anatoly Tikhovod has relied on is seed production. “AF“ Olvia ”closely cooperates with the Odessa Breeding and Genetic Institute and in 2017 received the status of seed farming.
“Of course, the cultivation and preparation of seed material, which will subsequently be sown in the fields of colleagues, is a great responsibility. In the crop protection system, we work only with original preparations, the quality of which has already been tested for years. In particular, we carry out most of the fungicidal and herbicidal treatments of seed plots with BASF preparations, ”said the director of the farm Anatoly Tikhovod.
According to him, the “original” approach increases the cost of production by 20-25%, but provides a good harvest, excellent quality of future seeds and the sparing effect of agricultural chemistry on the environment.
The director of the agricultural company added that in recent years, the profitability of seed production has fallen significantly (and last year it generally became unprofitable) due to the black seed market and many other factors. Therefore, this direction is developing more as a social project.
“We are a normal seed farm, doing this in order to maintain our status. These are real jobs in the village - on the seed line, on varietal weeds and directly the work of the agronomist in the field. The work must be thought up by the people who are in the village in order to keep them here, ”said Anatoly Tikhovod.
A seed line and a 20 t / h dressing line were built 7 years ago. Today, the company produces and sells up to 1 thousand tons of winter wheat and barley.
