It has recently become known that Algeria has suspended grain producers from Romania from participating in a tender for the supply of wheat. The reason is simple - the fresh wheat crop of the 2019-2020 season does not meet the phytosanitary requirements in force in Algeria.
It should be noted that the discrepancy with Algerian quality standards is due to the fact that in Romanian wheat from the new lots there is too much grain, which was significantly damaged by pests.
Algeria's supervisory authorities allow the presence of insect-damaged grains in a volume that does not exceed one tenth of the entire lot.
Romania is seriously concerned about the further fate of its grain, since insects thoroughly profit from local wheat crops during the drought period and caused enormous damage to agricultural land and crops.
According to the analysts of the Romanian grain market, according to the results of the current year, local farmers plan to harvest about ten million tons of wheat grain. However, under the circumstances, the large importer, represented by Algerian purchasers, is lost, and now the Romanians should look for alternative ways of selling.
Algeria, meanwhile, aims to massively purchase high-quality wheat grown by French farmers.
