April 2019 will forever go down in the history of the Korsakovsky Sakhalin state farm, because very soon a unique cargo will be delivered to the specified farm in a specially equipped plane. We are talking about a thousand Holstein calves who will arrive in Russia directly from Hungary.
Today, farm employees have a real hot season. After all, the arrival of foreign guests should be prepared in the most thorough manner and the premises should be coordinated with quarantine specialists. It is known that for a month Hungarian young animals will stay in special veterinary and sanitary conditions.
According to Korsakovsky’s veterinarians, Holstein will be raised in the so-called “cold” way: this means that newborn calves will be fed with mother’s milk for a couple of days, and on the third day they will be taken from the cow and transferred to single-compartment bays. This will avoid crowding and feed each calf individually to exclude food rivals and to control the distribution of equal portions of feed.
At first, the babies will be fed with colostrum, but then they will receive milk mixed with special compound feed. We note that the Hungarian side advised Sakhalin farmers to feed foreign calves in this way: the local livestock specialists say that this type of feeding will strengthen the immunity of the young livestock.
