Agriculture Secretary Robert Goodwill admitted that the current Brexit impasse and political uncertainty are the “worst enemy” of British agriculture.
Along with this, the minister said that the government is “determined” to help farmers in these “transformational times”.
Speaking at the Royal Bath & West Show, the newly elected Minister of Environment, Food, and Agriculture (DEFRA) said that the government remains a key priority for passing the bill on agriculture through parliament, and is currently considering 97 amendments to it.
“Land management is the foundation of the rural economy, and we want to make agriculture more sustainable,” the minister said.
“Food production and environmental protection go hand in hand. And through the use of new technologies, the industry can stimulate sustainable production while helping to combat climate change, ”added Robert Goodwill.
And Blowjob Butters, president of the National Union of Farmers of Great Britain (NFU), said that one of the biggest problems now is to prepare farmers for the future, not knowing what it will be.
Regardless of whether the country faces Brexit without a deal, Brexit with negotiations or no Brexit at all, the agricultural industry should remain at the forefront of discussions and added: “We must prepare for what agriculture needs, and not stay in side of politics. ”
