The epidemic of such a dangerous disease for farm animals as foot and mouth disease caused damage of extraordinary power to the cattle and meat industry of the Primorsky Territory.
Massive outbreaks of the virus in the region, which were recorded over the past year, killed more than one hundred thousand animals from private farms and subsidiary farms of Primorye. According to Oleg Kozhemyako, who heads the regional administration, insidious foot and mouth disease actually destroyed the industrial breeding of pigs in the region.
To compensate for the losses to the owners of personal subsidiary plots of Primorye, whose livestock could not be protected from the effects of foot and mouth disease, the Krai government allocated substantial funds, while simultaneously seizing pigs as potential distributors and victims of the virus. As a result, the budget of the Primorsky Territory has seriously deteriorated, and those agricultural workers who were involved in the pig industry were left without work and salaries.Given that about five thousand tons of pork meat due to the epidemic of foot and mouth disease never arrived on the shelves of Russian trading floors, the agriculture of Primorye suffered a loss of one billion rubles.
At the moment, it has not been established, which served as a source of mass infection of coastal animals. The foot and mouth disease virus caused the greatest damage to the farms of the Mikhailovsky and Oktyabrsky districts, and also killed a huge number of animals in the Spassky and Ussuri urban districts. To date, all foci of infection have been eliminated. In order for the virus to forget the way to Primorsky Krai, local livestock breeders will regularly vaccinate the livestock, which demonstrates susceptibility to the foot and mouth disease virus.
