January of this year turned out to be a hot and unusually productive time for livestock breeders and breeders of the Stavropol Territory. Local agricultural experts continue to work on breeding universal cattle breeds.
It is known that at the beginning of 2019 in the region there were more than eighty-three thousand individuals of cattle that belong to meat breeds. Of these cows - about 36 thousand. It is noteworthy that most of the Stavropol cows are representatives of the Kalmyk breed and make up more than 53% of the total mass of the regional livestock. The next most popular breed is Hereford. The number of cows of this species is 26.2% of the total number of livestock.
The third place belongs to Kazakh white-headed cows. Their share in the livestock is about 18%. And 2.8% of all Stavropol cows are of the Limousin breed. Local livestock breeders do not intend to stop there and are fruitfully working on breeding new breeds for the meat market. It is known that today the employees of pedigree factories, as well as experts from specialized agricultural companies, are engaged in breeding a new generation of cattle, the Dmitrievsky cows.
It will not be superfluous to add that the Dmitri calves differ from their "base" relatives in a more impressive weight (almost 12% more), despite the fact that the cost of food for both breeds is the same. As for the slaughter yield of representatives of this breed, it exceeds 63% of live weight.
The breeders of the Apanasenkovsky district, who introduced the Ascension breed of cows to the public, do not stand still. In this case, we are talking about cattle with meat of increased marbling, and the slaughter weight of this breed exceeds 61% of live weight.
