The downward price trend has returned to the Ukrainian apple market, as reported by analysts at the Info-Shuvar information center with reference to daily price monitoring data at wholesale sites in the country.
According to experts, the fall in prices at the beginning of June this year is due to an increase in the supply of strawberries and cherries from local farmers.
If at the beginning of the week sellers reduced prices for a low-quality apple, then closer to the weekend prices dipped even for high-quality Ukrainian and imported apples.
The most significant price decrease was recorded for Fuji, which since the beginning of the week has lost almost a third in price. As of May 6, 2019, the Fuji variety is offered at the price of 7-11 UAH / kg (€ 0.23-0.36 / kg) in the largest wholesale market of the Shuvar ORSPO, the largest in the Western region. Golden apple for the week has become cheaper by almost 18% and costs today 6-11.5 UAH / kg (€ 0.20-0.38 / kg).
Since the beginning of the week, the Idared variety has fallen in price by almost 15% to 6-10 UAH / kg (€ 0.20-0.33 / kg). At the same time, Idared is the only Ukrainian apple variety that costs more today than last year.
At the beginning of June 2018, Idared on Shuvar was 7% cheaper. It should be noted that compared with last year, most popular apple varieties at wholesale sites in Ukraine are sold at 40% cheaper.
