An unusual vaccination of wild animals against rabies has begun in the Volyn region. The bait with medical ampoules is thrown off from planes throughout Volyn.

Each box contains 160 doses. During his biting of animals, a drug that prevents rabies infection enters the body, where it lasts 2-3 hours, developing immunity for 2 weeks, says the director of the development company Yaroslav Shariy.

To achieve maximum effect in the fight against the disease, such flights will be carried out twice a year. The next flight is planned for the fall of this year.

Aircraft throw capsules using the built-in drum, which has a volume of more than 400 thousand doses. There should be 25 lures per km². A special device equipped with GPS helps to accurately calculate their number, says Mikhail Zhidachevsky, operator of vaccine dispensing.

An event to vaccinate wild animals against rabies in the Volyn region is being funded by the European Union. For 5 years, the European Union has completely defeated rabies of animals and is now interested in preventing the disease from returning to its territory. To this end, Europeans are sending funds to fight rabies in surrounding countries.

According to experts, the capsules are natural and safe for animals and humans. Therefore, if the bait falls in someone’s yard, nothing bad will happen.
