By the end of this year, S & P Dow Jones Indices plans to launch an index for the global dairy industry, a senior official said on May 7.
In recent years, the demand for dairy products in Asia, led by China, has been growing rapidly, as people with higher incomes are increasingly turning their attention to protein-rich foods.
“We are trying to create an index for the dairy industry, for starters - for skimmed milk powder,” said Fiona Boal, head of goods and real assets at S & P Dow Jones Indices.“We do this at the request of the industry, the reason is that the dairy industry did not feel that they were involved in financing product markets,” said Fiona Boal. According to her, the planned index will take into account the markets of the USA, Europe and New Zealand.
